Abstract

The United Nations in Iraq faces internal and external challenges that affect its ability to achieve its goals in the country. Among the main internal challenges is the violence and terrorism witnessed in Iraq after the occupation, where international missions and personnel have been subjected to continuous attacks and threats from armed groups and terrorist organizations. This has negatively impacted the United Nations' ability to implement its humanitarian and reconstruction programs.

In addition to the internal challenges, there are external challenges such as the American occupation of Iraq in 2003 and the interventions of regional states in Iraqi affairs. Different countries and regional players have intervened at varying levels, leading to escalating tensions and regional conflicts in the country. These external interventions have also affected the United Nations' ability to achieve reconciliation and stability in Iraq. The research focuses on understanding the impact of these challenges on Iraq and the role of the United Nations in addressing them. In general, it is expected that the United Nations will have an important role in assisting Iraq in achieving stability and sustainable development. The research can also explore potential future challenges and opportunities that the United Nations can leverage to support Iraq in the long term.
