Transition from Democracy to Authoritarianism in Iraq: The First Republican Era 1958-1963

Abstract

 It is regrettable that a country of a democratic state turns to the other individual, after a long experience of the rule by democracy. The most regret when you find some of the forces that helped put an end to democratic rule in Iraq in the first republican era was the democratic forces in terms of thought and claims. This study attempts to answer the fundamental question of why these civilian forces collaborated with the military groups to bring about a revolutionary change in the form and substance of the political system in Iraq, from a monarchy to a republican, and democratic to the individual? . And tries to answer the question why the military groups deny each promises made to preserve the democratic and civil state? And they began a series of laws and policies that disrupted the democratic life and prevented a multi-party, pluralism just in a few cases, but later that prevented democracy fully? We believe that the study of this phase as an essential part of the modern history of Iraq will have a great impact on the present and future. And provide for academics, researchers and policymakers scientific material suitable as a prelude to access to this topic, and beneficiation research and study.
