Abstract

Rumors are the spread or dissemination of unconfirmed or false information among individuals, and they tend to spread rapidly in the modern age, facilitated by social media and the internet. Rumors can have negative effects on college students in several aspects:

  1. Psychological Impact: College students already face significant psychological pressures during their academic journey. When exposed to false rumors, these pressures can increase, causing anxiety and mental distress.
  2. Social Impact: Rumors can tarnish a person's image among their fellow college students, creating an atmosphere of tension and mistrust. This negative social environment affects social relationships and interactions on campus.
  3. Academic Impact: Rumors can affect students' focus and attention, leading to academic distraction and a decline in their academic performance. They may feel pressured and succumb to the rumors rather than focusing on achieving their academic goals.

4. Behavioral Impact: Rumors can influence college students to make wrong decisions or engage in inappropriate behaviors. For instance, they may withdraw from classes or postpone their studies due to rumors that raise doubts about the quality of education or the difficulty of courses.
