Citizenship and the mechanisms for achieving it in Iraqi society

Abstract

The issue of citizenship is a fundamental pillar in building the Iraqi citizen, which in turn leads to state building. Therefore, any defect that affects it leaves an impact on building the society as a whole ,Therefore, the Iraqi state seeks, through the mechanisms of citizenship, to create and develop a sense of it in a way that makes it catch up with the progress and development witnessed by countries in the world.

In Iraqi society, achieving effective citizenship involves several key mechanisms. Firstly, education plays a crucial role in fostering a sense of national identity and civic responsibility among citizens. Schools and universities must incorporate civic education to teach the values of democracy, human rights, and the rule of law.

Secondly, legal frameworks are essential. Ensuring that the constitution and laws protect the rights of all citizens equally helps in promoting a sense of belonging and fairness. This includes rights to free speech, assembly, and participation in political processes.

Thirdly, political participation is vital. Encouraging citizens to vote, run for office, and engage in political discourse strengthens democratic governance and accountability.
